About Tourbillon Vault

Tourbillon Vault is an independent reference library for mechanical and luxury watches. It exists because the information a collector actually needs — the exact reference number, the calibre inside it, the case dimensions, the years it was produced — is scattered across forum posts, auction listings, and discontinued brand pages, and rarely in a form you can search or compare.

We put it in one place, in a consistent shape, and make it free to read.

What you will find here

The catalogue is the core: every watch we hold, filterable by brand, case material, complication, diameter, thickness, and lug width — the specifications people actually shop and compare on, rather than the ones that happen to be in a press release.

The movement encyclopedia documents the calibres themselves, and which watches use them. A movement often outlives the reference it debuted in, and tracing it is usually more revealing than tracing the case.

The glossary defines the vocabulary plainly, and the Journal covers the longer material — how complications work, why a reference matters, what separates two watches that look identical.

How the catalogue is compiled

Entries are assembled from manufacturer documentation, archive material, and public catalogue data, then normalised into one schema so that a Rolex and a Lange can be compared on the same axes. That normalisation is the hard part, and it is where errors live.

We would rather be corrected than be confidently wrong. If you find a reference number, production year, or specification that does not match your own records, please tell us — include the reference and the page, and we will check it against the source.

Two things we are explicit about: the catalogue is a reference, not an authentication service, and nothing here should be treated as a valuation or as advice on what to buy.

Independence and how the site is funded

Tourbillon Vault is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any watch manufacturer. Brand names and model designations belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification only.

The site is free to read and funded by advertising and by affiliate links, including the eBay Partner Network — we may earn a commission when you buy through certain links, at no extra cost to you. Those relationships never determine what appears in the catalogue, how a watch is described, or the order results are shown in. Advertising is kept deliberately sparse, and we do not place it on glossary definitions or reference pages where it would get in the way of the thing you came for.
