In Context

At 42 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 50 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

26280ST.OO.D022CU.01 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a blue dial with a stainless steel case. It was a limited edition. Introduced in 2008.

The 3126/3840 is the Royal Oak Offshore chronograph of 2007 to 2021: the in-house 3120 base with a Dubois Dépraz 2840 chronograph module on top. It powers 123 watches in this library. Audemars Piguet built the Offshore's chronographs as modules for most of the collection's history. The [3120](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-3120) supplies the going train, a 22-carat gold rotor on ceramic bearings and a 60-hour reserve on its own; the 2840 module adds the cam-operated chronograph and its counters, which is why the movement carries 59 jewels and why the reserve falls to 50 hours. It runs at 21,600 vph and is 29.92 mm across. The arrangement is what let the Offshore run so many dial and material variants, because the module is indifferent to what is around it. Every reference here is a [Royal Oak Offshore](/brands/audemars-piguet/royal-oak-offshore): 70 in the 42 mm case, including the 26470 of 2014, 42 in the 44 mm of 2010 and 8 in the 48 mm. 59 of the 123 are limited editions. The [2326/2840](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-2326-2840) is the earlier Offshore chronograph with the same module on a Jaeger-LeCoultre base, and the [4401](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-4401) the integrated in-house flyback that replaced both.

122 other watches in the library run the Audemars Piguet AP 3126 / 3840.
