In Context
At 48 mm this is exceptionally large for something worn on a wrist, closer to a pocket watch given lugs. At 15.2 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart. 50 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.
It is quartz, so it will hold time far more closely than any mechanical watch here, and asks for a battery every few years rather than a service.
A7836534G705 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a white dial with a stainless steel case. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph, a gmt, a perpetual calendar and an alarm.
Inside: Caliber Caliber 78
Explore this caliber →The Caliber 78 is the SuperQuartz analogue-digital movement of the Chronospace and the Airwolf, built on ETA's Thermoline base and certified by the COSC. It powers 37 watches in this library. Two liquid-crystal displays sit above and below the hands and carry the functions: a chronograph, an alarm, a countdown timer, a second time zone and a perpetual calendar, selected and set from the crown. Thermocompensation corrects the quartz oscillator against temperature, holding the movement to a few seconds a year rather than a few a month, which is the accuracy the chronometer certificate requires. The movement is 22 mm across with 7 jewels. In the library it sits under 22 Chronospace references, including the Chronospace Military of 2012 in black steel, and 15 Airwolf references from the mid-2000s. Cases run from 43.5 mm to 48 mm, with the 48 mm Chronospace at 16 references and the 44 mm Airwolf at 11. The [Caliber 79](/calibers/breitling-caliber-79) is the equivalent movement in the Aerospace, and the [B71](/calibers/breitling-caliber-b71), [Caliber 77](/calibers/breitling-caliber-77) and [B74](/calibers/breitling-caliber-b74) the three-hand SuperQuartz calibers in the rest of the range.
36 other watches in the library run the Breitling Caliber 78.
