In Context

At 37 mm it sits just under the modern norm — the band that suits the widest spread of wrists. At 10 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 120 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 42 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

IW3528-10 is one of 10 executions of the IW3528 base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a black dial and a stainless steel case.

An ETA 2892-A2 base with a 21K gold rotor weight, finished by IWC. Mechanically it is the same movement as the 37521; the two differ only in the height at which the hands sit, so that one base could serve cases of different depth. The 2892 is the thinner of ETA's two workhorse automatics and the one chosen where case height matters.

25 other watches in the library run the IWC 37524.
