Da Vinci Chronograph Rose Gold

In Context

At 43.1 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. At 14.4 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 68 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

IW3764-11 is one of 18 executions of the IW3764 base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a silver dial and a rose gold case. Introduced in 2007. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph.

IWC's in-house flyback chronograph, in production since 2007. Flyback means the chronograph can be reset and restarted in one press while running, without stopping first — a pilot's requirement, and the reason IWC put it in the Ingenieur and Portugieser chronographs. It is wound by the Pellaton system and holds 68 hours, unusually long for a chronograph running at 4 Hz.

20 other watches in the library run the IWC 89360.
