At 10.9 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The 30130 is IWC's version of the ETA 2896, the 2892 with a large date, made for the tonneau Da Vinci Automatic of 2007. It powers 23 watches in this library, every one a Da Vinci Automatic Midsize. The 2896 adds a big date on two discs to the thin 2892 base the [2892 piece](/blog/the-eta-2892) describes, and IWC finishes and regulates it in Schaffhausen. It has 22 jewels, a 42-hour reserve and a beat of 28,800 vph at 25.6 mm across, and it gave the 35.6 mm Da Vinci a date large enough to read on a small tonneau dial.
