IWCGrande Complication

The Grande Complication is IWC's ref 3770 of 1990: a perpetual calendar, a chronograph and a minute repeater in one 42.2 mm case. This collection also holds Il Destriero Scafusia of 1993, which added a split-seconds chronograph and a flying tourbillon. This library holds 23 references.

About the IWC Grande Complication

Both were the work of Kurt Klaus's team. The Grande Complication put the Da Vinci's perpetual calendar, with its four-digit year and moon phase, on a Valjoux 7750 base with a minute repeater added, as the automatic 79091, and IWC has made a handful a year since. Il Destriero Scafusia, made in 750 pieces for the company's 125th anniversary, is hand-wound on the 18680, with the rattrapante and the tourbillon on top; at its launch it was the most complicated wristwatch in production. The 7750 piece explains the base under the 79091.

The 79091 powers 13 references and the 18680 10. Every case is 42.2 mm. Platinum is the material of 11 cases, yellow gold of 5, red and rose gold of 6 and white gold of 1. Silver dials lead at 14. The three base references, IW1868, IW3770 and the platinum IW9270, hold every variant, most of them dial-language versions. Water resistance is 10 m on the references that record it, and the median case is 16.3 mm thick.
