In Context

At 38 mm it sits just under the modern norm — the band that suits the widest spread of wrists. The 3.6 mm case is genuinely slim and goes under a shirt cuff without argument. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. Its 33-hour reserve wants wearing most days; leave it off and it stops. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

13435SQ stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a blue dial with a white gold case. Introduced in 2015.

The 849 opened up: the same 1.85 mm hand-wound base, skeletonised down to 119 parts from the solid movement's 123, with the exposed bridge surfaces engraved and decorated. It drives the Master Ultra Thin Squelette. Removing that much metal costs a little running time — the reserve falls slightly against the closed 849 — while balance and hairspring carry over unchanged.

4 other watches in the library run the Jaeger-LeCoultre 849A SQ.
