In Context

At 29.9 mm it is small by current standards, in the range most wristwatches occupied before cases began growing through the 1990s. At 11.14 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 42 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

Q714256J stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a brown sunburst dial with a pink gold case. It was a limited edition.

Inside: Caliber 834

Explore this caliber →

Calibre 834 is a manual-winding movement developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre exclusively for the Reverso Tribute Geographic. Fully integrated and manufactured entirely in-house, this calibre addresses the challenges posed by the rectangular Reverso case, particularly with traditionally round complications. It features an integrated world time complication with a static city name display and a rotating 24-hour ring, adjusted in hourly increments via a hidden pusher between the top lugs. The calibre also includes Jaeger-LeCoultre's patented Grande Date complication (patent CH715152), using two side-by-side discs—units (1–9) and tens (10s, 20s, 30s)—for a compact, harmonious visual layout within the limited space of the rectangular case.

1 other watch in the library runs the Jaeger-LeCoultre 834.
