In Context
At 34 mm it is classically proportioned: the size a dress watch was understood to be for most of the twentieth century, and small enough to sit under a cuff. At 10.1 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.
The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 55 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 25,200 vph the seconds hand advances 7 times a second.
434.10.34.20.02.001 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver matte dial with a stainless steel case. Introduced in 2022.
Inside: Caliber 8800
Explore this caliber →The 8800 is Omega's Master Chronometer movement for mid-size cases, a single-barrel co-axial caliber certified by METAS to resist 15,000 gauss. It powers 243 watches in this library. Master Chronometer certification, introduced in 2015, tests the cased watch rather than the bare movement: rate, water resistance and above all resistance to a 15,000 gauss magnetic field, which a conventional hairspring cannot survive. The 8800 meets it with a silicon balance spring on a free-sprung balance, bidirectional winding and the co-axial escapement, at 26 mm across with 35 jewels, a 55-hour reserve and 25,200 vph. The finish is rhodium with Omega's arabesque Geneva waves. It is the smaller companion to the two-barrel [8900](/calibers/omega-8900), and the difference is a millimetre of diameter and five hours of reserve. In the library it sits under 84 [Aqua Terras](/brands/omega/aqua-terra), the 34 mm and 38 mm models, 65 [De Villes](/brands/omega/de-ville), 37 [Constellations](/brands/omega/constellation) at 39 mm, 26 [Seamaster Diver 300Ms](/brands/omega/seamaster-diver-300m) of the 2018 generation, 17 Seamaster 1948s and 14 [Planet Oceans](/brands/omega/seamaster-planet-ocean) at 39.5 mm. Cases run from 34 mm to 42 mm, with 34 mm the most common at 79 references. The [8806](/calibers/omega-8806) is the same movement without the date, the [8807](/calibers/omega-8807) the version with a Sedna gold rotor for gold cases, and the [2500](/calibers/omega-2500) the ETA-based co-axial it replaced in the smaller cases.
242 other watches in the library run the Omega 8800.
