In Context

At 32.5 mm it is small by current standards, in the range most wristwatches occupied before cases began growing through the 1990s. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 42 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

5703.30.01 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver dial with a red gold case. It was a limited edition.

A chronometer-certified automatic used for the Omega Museum Collection, the numbered series of re-editions drawn from the company's own archive. The first, issued in 2001, reproduced the 1938 pilot's watch in 4,938 pieces. The movement is rhodium-plated and COSC-rated, and deliberately conventional: on these watches the substance is the historical reference being reproduced on the dial, not the calibre behind it.

14 other watches in the library run the Omega 2200.
