In Context

At 60 mm this is exceptionally large for something worn on a wrist, closer to a pocket watch given lugs. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 192 hours of reserve puts it well past a weekend — several days off the wrist and it is still going. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

PAM00341 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a black dial with a titanium case. It was a limited edition. Introduced in 2009.

A version of the P.2002, the first movement Panerai designed and built itself, launched in 2005. Three patented barrels in series hold eight days and, more to the point, deliver an even torque across the whole of it rather than tailing off at the end. A linear indicator on the dial tracks what is left. It also carries a second time zone and a seconds reset.

1 other watch in the library runs the Panerai P.2002/7.
