In Context
At 42 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.
The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 60 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.
PAM00439 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a brown dial with a red gold case.
Inside: Caliber P.999
Explore this caliber →The P.999 is a mechanical movement combining reliability, robustness and precision and featuring the special structure with wide separated bridges that characterizes all the other Officine Panerai Manufacture calibres. With a 12 ligne diameter, equal to 27.4 mm, and a thickness of 3.4 mm, the P.999 calibre is slightly smaller than the other Officine Panerai calibres making it ideal for models which are smaller, both in diameter and in thickness, than the historical watches. With 19 jewels, a single barrel providing a 60-hour power reserve and small seconds at 9 o’clock, the calibre is made up of 154 components and beats time at a frequency of 3 Hz: this means that its balance wheel makes 21,600 alternations/hour. Equipped with adjusting screws, the balance wheel is protected by an Incabloc® anti-shock device while the regulating system of the flat spiral is of swan’s neck type in the pink and red gold version of the movement.
3 other watches in the library run the Panerai P.999.
