In Context

At 40.5 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. The sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 55 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

5960P-015 is one of 3 executions of the 5960P base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a platinum case. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph and an annual calendar.

The 5960P family

5960P-015 is one of 3 variants sharing the 5960P base reference — same watch underneath, different dial, bezel, or bracelet execution. Browse the others:

The CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H is Patek Philippe's first in-house automatic chronograph, introduced in 2006 in the ref 5960. It carries an annual calendar, a power reserve indicator and a day-night display. It powers 17 watches in this library, every one a 40.5 mm Annual Calendar Chronograph. It has a column wheel and a vertical clutch, so the chronograph seconds hand can run continuously as a seconds hand, and the elapsed hours and minutes share one subdial at 6 o'clock. The annual calendar shows the day, date and month in windows, the power reserve at 12 and a day-night indicator beside the 24-hour scale. It has 40 jewels, a 55-hour reserve and a beat of 28,800 vph at 33 mm across, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. The [chronograph piece](/blog/how-a-chronograph-engages-column-wheel-cam-and-clutch) explains the architecture. In the library it powers 17 [Complications](/brands/patek-philippe/complications) references, the 5960 in platinum, rose gold and, from 2014, steel, and the 5961 with a baguette bezel. 7 are limited editions. The [CH 28-520](/calibers/patek-philippe-ch-28-520) is the same chronograph without the calendar in the 5905 and the Nautilus 5980, and the glossary defines the [annual calendar](/glossary/annual-calendar).

16 other watches in the library run the Patek Philippe CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H.
