In Context

At 41 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. At 12.4 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 65 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

5270P-014 is one of 2 executions of the 5270P base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a green gradient dial and a platinum case. Introduced in 2022. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph and a perpetual calendar.

The 5270P family

The CH 29-535 PS Q is Patek Philippe's first perpetual calendar chronograph made entirely in-house, introduced in the ref 5270 in 2011. It powers 19 watches in this library, every one a 41 mm Grand Complication. It builds the perpetual calendar onto the CH 29-535 PS, the hand-wound column-wheel chronograph of 2009 whose six patented innovations include an instantaneous 30-minute counter and a chronograph wheel with optimised teeth; the whole movement has 456 parts, 33 jewels, a 65-hour reserve and a beat of 28,800 vph at 32 mm across and 7 mm high, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. It replaced the Lemania-based [CH 27-70 Q](/calibers/patek-philippe-ch-27-70-q), which had powered the 3970 and 5970 since 1986. In the library it powers 19 [Grand Complications](/brands/patek-philippe/grand-complications): the 5270 in white gold, rose gold and platinum and the 5271 with a baguette-set case. 2 are limited editions. The [CH 29-535 PS](/calibers/patek-philippe-ch-29-535-ps) is the chronograph alone in the 5170 and 5172, and the glossary defines the [perpetual calendar](/glossary/perpetual-calendar).

18 other watches in the library run the Patek Philippe CH 29-535 PS Q.
