In Context

At 44 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. At 10.58 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 48 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

6102 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It carries a sapphire case. Beyond the time it carries a date and a moon phase.

The calibre 240 micro-rotor base carrying the Celestial's astronomical display: three sapphire discs turning at their own rates to show the night sky over the northern hemisphere as seen from the latitude of Geneva, the moon's orbital position and its phases. A separate reading gives the time of the meridian passage of Sirius and of the moon. 315 parts, and still under seven millimetres thick.

8 other watches in the library run the Patek Philippe 240 LU CL C.
