In Context

At 34 mm it is classically proportioned: the size a dress watch was understood to be for most of the twentieth century, and small enough to sit under a cuff. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 55 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

124200-0007 is one of 10 executions of the 124200 base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a beige gloss dial and a stainless steel case. Introduced in 2025.

The 2232 is the no-date version of the Rolex 2236, introduced in 2020 for the Oyster Perpetual 28, 31 and 34. It powers 35 watches in this library, all steel. It is the [2236](/calibers/rolex-2236) without its calendar: a 20 mm automatic with the silicon Syloxi hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers, 31 jewels, a 55-hour reserve and a beat of 28,800 vph, tested after casing to the Superlative Chronometer standard of two seconds a day. The [2236 piece](/blog/the-rolex-2236-the-most-common-movement-in-this-library) explains the family and why its silicon spring reached the small calibers first. In the library it powers 15 references of the [Oyster Perpetual 31](/brands/rolex/oyster-perpetual-31), 10 of the [Oyster Perpetual 34](/brands/rolex/oyster-perpetual-34) and 10 of the [Oyster Perpetual 28](/brands/rolex/oyster-perpetual-28), the 2020 generation with its coloured dials. Every one is steel. The [2231](/calibers/rolex-2231) is the 48-hour no-date movement it replaced, and the [3230](/calibers/rolex-3230) its counterpart in the 36 mm and 41 mm Oyster Perpetuals.

34 other watches in the library run the Rolex 2232.
