OP II

About the Panerai OP II

The 6497 is a pocket-watch movement, 36.6 mm across, and the Unitas piece explains why that suited Panerai: a 44 mm cushion case needs a large movement to fill it, and the historical Panerais had run pocket-watch calibers from Rolex and Angelus. The OP II runs at 21,600 vph with 17 jewels and a 56-hour reserve, with a small seconds at 9 o'clock and no date, decorated with Côtes de Genève. It is the least complicated movement Panerai has used and the one most watchmakers know best.

In the library it sits under 65 Luminor references, the Luminor Marina boutique editions of the 2000s and 2010s, and one Radiomir. 47 of the 66 are limited editions, most of them boutique series of a few hundred pieces.

The OP I and OP XI are the other Unitas-based hand-wound movements in the range, and the P.5000 is the in-house eight-day movement that replaced them in the Luminor Base and Marina.
