In Context

At 41 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. At 9.9 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 50 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 45 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

15416CD.OO.1225CD.01 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a skeleton dial with a ceramic case.

The 3132 is the Double Balance Wheel Openworked movement of 2016, the 3120 base with a second balance wheel on the same axis as the first. It powers 33 watches in this library. The idea is inertia. Two balance wheels and two hairsprings on one staff double the oscillating mass of a single balance the same size, so the assembly is steadier against shocks and positional error, and the two springs correct each other's asymmetry as they breathe. Audemars Piguet patented the arrangement and opened the movement to show it, which is why every 3132 is skeletonised. It runs at 21,600 vph with a 45-hour reserve, 38 jewels and a 26.6 mm diameter. Every reference here is a [Royal Oak](/brands/audemars-piguet/royal-oak) Double Balance Wheel Openworked: 19 in the 41 mm 15407 and 14 in the 37 mm 15466, in steel, pink gold and white gold. One is a limited edition. The [3120](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-3120) is the base underneath, and the [2950](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-2950) the flying tourbillon that is the Royal Oak's other exposed movement.

32 other watches in the library run the Audemars Piguet AP 3132.
