In Context

At 34 mm it is classically proportioned: the size a dress watch was understood to be for most of the twentieth century, and small enough to sit under a cuff. At 8.8 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 50 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 50 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

77350ST.OO.1261ST.01 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver dial with a stainless steel case. Introduced in 2020.

The 5800 is the automatic Audemars Piguet introduced in 2022 for the 34 mm Royal Oak, the smallest mechanical Royal Oak. It powers 25 watches in this library, every one 34 mm. It is the sibling of the [5900](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-5900) of the 37 mm, scaled to a 23.3 mm diameter with 189 parts, 28 jewels, a beat of 21,600 vph and a 50-hour reserve, with a date and a stop-seconds function, and it is finished for a display back. It replaced the quartz and the older automatic movements in the smallest Royal Oak with a modern in-house caliber, which is what let Audemars Piguet offer the 34 mm Selfwinding beside the 37 mm and 41 mm on equal terms. In the library it powers 25 [Royal Oak](/brands/audemars-piguet/royal-oak) Selfwinding 34 references, in steel, red gold, ceramic and two-tone, many with diamond bezels. One is a limited edition. The [2713](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-2713) is the quartz movement of the 33 mm Royal Oak beside it, and the [4302](/calibers/audemars-piguet-ap-4302) the movement of the 41 mm.

24 other watches in the library run the Audemars Piguet AP 5800.
