In Context

At 42 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. At 10.4 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

It is quartz, so it will hold time far more closely than any mechanical watch here, and asks for a battery every few years rather than a service.

E7936210.G606 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver dial with a titanium case.

The Caliber 79 is the SuperQuartz analogue-digital movement of the Aerospace, built on the ETA E10.451 and certified by the COSC. It powers 49 watches in this library, all Aerospaces. The Aerospace is operated entirely from the crown: turn it to cycle through the functions and press it to select, with two liquid-crystal displays showing a chronograph to a hundredth of a second, an alarm, a second time zone, a countdown timer and a perpetual calendar, while the hands keep the time. Thermocompensation corrects the quartz oscillator against temperature, which is what earns the chronometer certificate, and the 7-jewel movement is 22 mm across. Breitling's titanium case keeps the watch light enough to be the pilot's instrument it was designed as. In this library it sits under the [Aerospace](/brands/breitling/aerospace) and the Aerospace Evo of 2013, 28 references in the 42 mm case and 21 in the 43 mm Evo. Two are limited editions. The [Caliber 78](/calibers/breitling-caliber-78) is the analogue-digital SuperQuartz of the Chronospace and Airwolf, and the [B71](/calibers/breitling-caliber-b71) and [Caliber 77](/calibers/breitling-caliber-77) the three-hand SuperQuartz movements in the smaller cases.

48 other watches in the library run the Breitling Caliber 79.
