In Context

At 39 mm it sits just under the modern norm — the band that suits the widest spread of wrists. At 11.5 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 60 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 42 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

IW325516 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a black dial with a stainless steel case. It was a limited edition.

The 30110 is IWC's version of the ETA 2892-A2, adjusted and finished to IWC's specification and the base of the Mark XVI and Mark XVII. It powers 82 watches in this library. The 2892 is the industry's thin automatic, a millimetre slimmer than the 2824 and the base most Swiss maisons choose for a three-hand watch, and the [2892 piece](/blog/the-eta-2892) explains why. IWC's version runs at 28,800 vph with a 42-hour reserve and 21 jewels, at 25.6 mm across, and carries the date. When ETA restricted supply to outside brands, IWC moved the same specification to the Sellita SW300 as the [35111](/calibers/iwc-35111). In the library it sits under 37 [Portofino](/brands/iwc/portofino) Automatics, 23 [Pilot's Watches](/brands/iwc/pilot), the Mark XVI and Mark XVII and the Le Petit Prince edition of the latter, 16 GST Aquatimers and 6 [Ingenieurs](/brands/iwc/ingenieur). Cases run from 34 mm to 46 mm, with 38 mm the most common at 27 references and 39 mm at 14. Six are limited editions. The [32111](/calibers/iwc-32111) is the in-house five-day movement that replaced both the 30110 and the 35111 in the Mark XX and the Portofino.

81 other watches in the library run the IWC 30110.
