In Context

At 43 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. At 14.85 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 60 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 46 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

IW3780-09 is one of 7 executions of the IW3780 base reference. Underneath they are the same watch; what separates this one is a black matte dial and a stainless steel case. Introduced in 2025. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph.

The 69385 is the in-house chronograph of the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 of 2021 and the Performance Chronograph of 2024. It is a 69000-family movement with a day and date. It powers 30 watches in this library, every one a Pilot's Watch. The 69000 calibers replaced IWC's Valjoux-based chronographs from 2016 with a column wheel, a pawl-winding system related to the Pellaton mechanism and a 46-hour reserve at 28,800 vph. The 69385 has 33 jewels at 30 mm across and 7.9 mm high, with the day and date at 3 o'clock and the counters at 6, 9 and 12. It brought the Pilot's Chronograph to a 41 mm case for the first time. In the library it powers 30 [Pilot's Watch](/brands/iwc/pilot) references: the Chronograph 41 in steel with blue and green dials, the Top Gun and the Petronas Performance Chronographs at 42.5 mm and 43 mm. 3 are limited editions. The [69380](/calibers/iwc-69380) is the same movement in the 43 mm and Top Gun chronographs of 2019, the [69375](/calibers/iwc-69375) its Ingenieur version, and the [79320](/calibers/iwc-79320) the Valjoux-based chronograph the family replaced.

29 other watches in the library run the IWC 69385.
