In Context

At 35 mm it is classically proportioned: the size a dress watch was understood to be for most of the twentieth century, and small enough to sit under a cuff. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 48 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 25,200 vph the seconds hand advances 7 times a second.

123.58.35.20.63.001 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a brown dial with a red gold case.

The 2202 is the small-seconds version of Omega's co-axial 2500. It is an ETA 2892-based automatic with the co-axial escapement and the seconds on a subdial at 6 o'clock. It powers 17 watches in this library. The [2500](/calibers/omega-2500) put the co-axial escapement on the 2892 base in 1999, and the 2202 moves its seconds off the centre, with 27 jewels, a 48-hour reserve and a beat of 25,200 vph at 25.6 mm across, rhodium-plated and certified by the COSC. A small seconds gives a dress watch the face of a hand-wound one, which is why it sits in the Prestige and the Museum Collection. In the library it powers 10 [De Ville](/brands/omega/de-ville) Prestige Co-Axial Small Seconds references at 39 mm, 4 [Museum Collection](/brands/omega/museum-collection) reissues and 3 [Constellation](/brands/omega/constellation) Small Seconds at 35 mm. 4 are limited editions. The [2403](/calibers/omega-2403) is the no-date version of the same base, and the [8802](/calibers/omega-8802) the Master Chronometer small-seconds movement that succeeded it.

16 other watches in the library run the Omega 2202.
