In Context

At 45 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 240 hours of reserve puts it well past a weekend — several days off the wrist and it is still going. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

FER00022 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a black dial with a stainless steel case. Beyond the time it carries a gmt.

The self-winding development of the P.2002, and Panerai's first in-house automatic, from 2007. Three barrels give it ten days rather than eight, tracked by a linear power-reserve indicator. The rotor is the significant change: the eight-day movement had to be wound by hand, and adding automatic winding to a multi-barrel train of that length is the harder problem.
