In Context

At 44 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. At 15.65 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 50 m covers rain and hand-washing comfortably; it is not a watch to swim in.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 72 hours of reserve puts it well past a weekend — several days off the wrist and it is still going. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

PAM01111 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a blue sunburst dial with a goldtech case. Introduced in 2021.

The P.9100 is the first chronograph Panerai designed itself: a three-day automatic flyback with a column wheel and a vertical clutch, introduced in 2013. It powers 29 watches in this library. It is built on the P.9000 base with the chronograph works integrated rather than added as a module: two barrels for 72 hours, a beat of 28,800 vph, 37 jewels and 302 components. The chronograph minutes are read from a central hand rather than a subdial, the flyback resets and restarts on one press, and the P.9100/R version adds a regatta countdown for the Luminor 1950 Regatta. The [chronograph piece](/blog/how-a-chronograph-engages-column-wheel-cam-and-clutch) explains the architecture and the glossary the [flyback](/glossary/flyback). In the library it powers 20 [Luminor 1950](/brands/panerai/luminor-1950) references, the Chrono Flyback at 44 mm and the PCYC editions, and 9 [Submersibles](/brands/panerai/submersible) at 47 mm. 12 are limited editions. The [P.9010](/calibers/panerai-p-9010) is the three-hand movement of the same family, and the [OP XII](/calibers/panerai-op-xii) the Valjoux-based chronograph Panerai used before it.

28 other watches in the library run the Panerai P.9100.
