In Context

At 42 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. The case back is open, so the movement is visible without taking the watch apart, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 72 hours of reserve puts it well past a weekend — several days off the wrist and it is still going. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

PAM00570 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a brown dial with a red gold case. It was a limited edition. Introduced in 2015. Beyond the time it carries a gmt.

A hand-wound three-day movement made at Panerai's Neuchâtel manufacture, carrying a second time zone alongside small seconds, date and a power-reserve reading. Two barrels supply the running time. The construction is three-quarter plate — one large bridge covering most of the train and screwed hard to the mainplate — which is stiffer than a set of separate bridges.

1 other watch in the library runs the Panerai P.3001/10.
