PaneraiRadiomir 1940

The Radiomir 1940 is the Radiomir with lugs machined from the case block rather than wire lugs welded on. A cylindrical crown replaces the conical one; it is the form the watch took in 1940. Panerai made it a collection of its own from 2012 to 2020, and this library holds 54 references.

About the Panerai Radiomir 1940

The case sits between the two Panerai archetypes: flatter than the Luminor 1950, without its crown bridge, and sturdier than the wire-lug Radiomir. Panerai used it for the hand-wound three-day models, the 3 Days Automatic of 2014 with the micro-rotor P.4000, the 10 Days GMT, the Equation of Time, the Chrono Monopulsante and, in 2016, a minute repeater with a tourbillon and GMT.

The P.4000 is the most common movement here at 12 references, the hand-wound P.3000 of the 47 mm follows at 10, the smaller hand-wound P.1000 sits in 5, the GMT and power-reserve P.4002 in 4, and the ten-day P.2003/10 in 3. The Unitas-based OP XXV and OP XXVII survive in 5. 31 references are hand-wound and 23 automatic, and the glossary explains the micro-rotor that let the automatic stay slim.

The 45 mm case accounts for 21 references, the 47 mm for 16 and the 42 mm for 11. Steel is the material of 29 cases and red gold of 17, with white gold, titanium and platinum behind them. Black dials lead at 22, brown at 12 and blue at 11. Water resistance is 100 m on 35 references. 15 references carry a GMT function, 29 are limited editions, the rarity median is 7, and 52 of the 54 have a display back.

The Radiomir absorbed the line in 2020, and the Luminor 1950 is the parallel revival of the later case.
