In Context

At 44.1 mm it is a large watch — well above this catalogue’s 40 mm median, and enough to dominate a narrow wrist. The sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse.

The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 42 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 18,000 vph the seconds hand advances 5 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.

995/134G stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a multi-color guilloche dial with a white gold case. It was a limited edition.

The 17''' LEP PS is Patek Philippe's pocket-watch movement for open-face cases: a hand-wound Lépine caliber of 17 lignes, 38.65 mm across and 3.8 mm high. It powers 31 watches in this library. A Lépine movement puts the small seconds opposite the crown, at 6 o'clock with the crown at 12, the layout of the open-face pocket watch since the eighteenth century. This one has 137 parts under seven bridges, 18 jewels, a 42-hour reserve and a slow beat of 18,000 vph, and it is finished to the Patek Philippe Seal. It is the base for the Lépine models of the [pocket watch collection](/brands/patek-philippe/pocket-watches): the plain 973 in yellow, white and rose gold, and the 992 references from the Rare Handcrafts workshops, whose cases carry cloisonné enamel and hand engraving. In the library it powers 31 pocket watches, 29 of them in the 44.1 mm case; 23 are limited editions, most of them the Rare Handcrafts pieces. The [17''' LEP PS IRM](/calibers/patek-philippe-17-lep-ps-irm) adds a power reserve indicator, and the [17''' SAV PS](/calibers/patek-philippe-17-sav-ps) is the hunter-cased Savonette layout with the crown at 3.

30 other watches in the library run the Patek Philippe 17''' LEP PS.
