In Context

At 40 mm it is sized to the current mainstream: 40 mm is the median across every watch measured in this catalogue. At 11.9 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 72 hours of reserve puts it well past a weekend — several days off the wrist and it is still going. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

126598TBR-0001 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a champagne sunburst dial with a yellow gold case. Introduced in 2024. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph.

Inside: Caliber 4131

Explore this caliber →

The 4131 is the Daytona's movement since 2023, the caliber 4130 updated with the Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers and an open-worked rotor. It powers 47 watches in this library, all 40 mm Daytonas. The [4130](/calibers/rolex-4130) of 2000 was already the simplest automatic chronograph in its class, with a vertical clutch, a column wheel and far fewer parts than a conventional movement. The 4131 keeps that architecture and brings it to the specification of Rolex's current calibers: the Chronergy escapement, more efficient and made of a nickel-phosphorus alloy insensitive to magnetism, the Paraflex shock absorbers, and a ball-bearing rotor cut open to reveal the movement. The [3135-to-3235 piece](/blog/rolex-3135-to-3235-what-changed) explains the escapement. The reserve is 72 hours at 28,800 vph with 44 jewels, at 30.5 mm across, and the finish includes Côtes de Genève Rolex, visible on the platinum model through the first display back on a Daytona. Every one is a Superlative Chronometer, accurate to two seconds a day after casing. Every reference here is a [Cosmograph Daytona](/brands/rolex/daytona) of the 126500 generation, in steel, gold, Everose and platinum, 47 in all. The [4132](/calibers/rolex-4132) is the same movement with a 24-hour totaliser for the Le Mans edition, and the [4030](/calibers/rolex-4030) the Zenith-based movement of the 1988 Daytona that started the automatic line.

46 other watches in the library run the Rolex 4131.
