In Context
At 37.5 mm it sits just under the modern norm — the band that suits the widest spread of wrists. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the plexiglass crystal scratches easily but polishes back out at home, which sapphire does not.
The movement is hand-wound, so winding it becomes part of the day rather than something the watch does for you. 48 hours of reserve is enough to set it down on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday. At 21,600 vph the seconds hand advances 6 times a second, the slower and more audible rate of an older design.
6265-001 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver sunburst dial with a stainless steel case. Introduced in 1971. Beyond the time it carries a chronograph.
Inside: Caliber 727
Explore this caliber →A Valjoux 72 reworked by Rolex for the hand-wound Daytona, and the movement in reference 6265. The chronograph runs on a column wheel with a lateral clutch, the standard arrangement of its generation. Rolex changed the balance to lift the rate from the Valjoux's 18,000 vibrations an hour to 21,600. It was among the last bought-in chronograph bases Rolex used.
