In Context

At 36.47 mm it is classically proportioned: the size a dress watch was understood to be for most of the twentieth century, and small enough to sit under a cuff. At 9.03 mm thick it is about average for a modern wristwatch. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. Rated to 30 m, it is protected against rain and splashes and nothing beyond that.

The movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. 40 hours of reserve carries it overnight, but not through a weekend in a drawer. At 28,800 vph the seconds hand advances 8 times a second.

86300/000R-9826 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a silver guilloche dial with a pink gold case. Introduced in 2013.

The 2460 SC is Vacheron Constantin's standard automatic, introduced in 2005 with a 22-carat gold rotor and the Hallmark of Geneva. It is the base of the maison's world-time, four-aperture and calendar calibers. It powers 21 watches in this library. It is 26.2 mm across with 27 jewels, beating at 28,800 vph for a 40-hour reserve, with a centre seconds; the SC stands for "seconde au centre". Every one carries the Hallmark of Geneva, which certifies finishing and rate. The [2460 G4](/calibers/vacheron-constantin-2460-g4) puts its display in four apertures for the Métiers d'Art, and the [2460 WT](/calibers/vacheron-constantin-2460-wt) adds a world time. In the library it powers 20 [Métiers d'Art](/brands/vacheron-constantin/metiers-d-art) references, the Les Univers Infinis dials after Escher and the Villes Lumières series with their hand-applied city maps, all at 40 mm, and one [Historiques](/brands/vacheron-constantin/historiques). 15 are limited editions. The [1120](/calibers/vacheron-constantin-1120) is the ultra-thin automatic on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 920 base the maison used before it, and the [2160](/calibers/vacheron-constantin-2160) the peripheral-rotor tourbillon of the current generation.

20 other watches in the library run the Vacheron Constantin 2460 SC.
