About the Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars

It was the home of the maison's traditional watchmaking while the Royal Oak carried its modern image: plain round cases in gold and platinum, small seconds, and the high complications. The Grande Complication with its split-seconds chronograph, minute repeater and perpetual calendar ran on the 2885; the Equation of Time, the Tourbillon Chronograph and the Chronometer with Audemars Piguet's own escapement all appeared here first. The collection divides exactly in half between hand-wound and automatic, 60 and 60.

The hand-wound small-seconds 3090 is the most common movement at 22 references, the 2885 and the in-house 3120 follow at 17 each, and the ultra-thin 2120, the Jaeger-LeCoultre-based movement that also powered the first Royal Oak, appears in 7 with its calendar version in 5 more. The 2906 and 2907 tourbillon chronographs and the 2945 chronometer account for 15.

Sizes run from 27 mm to 46 mm, with 39 mm the most common at 26 references, 41 mm at 24, 43 mm at 20 and 36 mm at 17. Pink gold is the material of 55 cases, white gold of 35 and platinum of 21; there is no steel. Silver dials account for 58 references, and 21 references carry a tourbillon, 15 a chronograph and 13 a minute repeater. Water resistance is 20 m, which is a dress watch's rating. 9 references are limited editions.

CODE 11.59 is the round collection that succeeded it, the Royal Oak shares the 3120 and 2120, and the glossary defines the grand complication.
