Finishis surrounded by new Roman numerals – original creations imbued with an undeniably modern touch – associated with hands bearing a counterweight that lends them a pleasing presence. The Cockpit Lady thus shares the aesthetic of the men’s Cockpit model. This wealth of design and finishing is further enhanced by the wide variety of metals, dial colors and types of straps and bracelets that are available, thereby generating an almost infinite number of possible combinations. Such an omnipresent aura of refinement and luxury detracts nothing from the remarkable technical qualities of the Cockpit Lady, which remains above all else an outstanding sports watch.

In Context

At 31.8 mm it is small by current standards, in the range most wristwatches occupied before cases began growing through the 1990s. At 12.7 mm it is a tall case, and it will catch on a cuff. The case back is closed, so the movement stays out of sight, and the sapphire crystal will resist everything short of deliberate abuse. 100 m is genuine swimming resistance — more than the shape of this watch suggests it would need.

It is quartz, so it will hold time far more closely than any mechanical watch here, and asks for a battery every few years rather than a service.

A7135612.A663 stands on its own in this catalogue — no other reference here shares its base number. It pairs a white dial with a stainless steel case.

The B71 is a SuperQuartz movement, Breitling's thermocompensated quartz, used in the smallest cases in the range. It powers 176 watches in this library, 154 of them Galactics. Ordinary quartz drifts with temperature. SuperQuartz, built on ETA's Thermoline base, measures the movement's own temperature with a thermistor and corrects the oscillator's rate digitally, which brings it to roughly ten seconds a year rather than ten a month. That is accurate enough for COSC chronometer certification, which very few quartz movements carry, and Breitling certifies every SuperQuartz caliber. The B71 is the two-hand-plus-date version for the 30 mm and 32 mm cases. In this library it sits under the [Galactic](/brands/breitling/galactic) 30 and 32, 154 references, with the Windrider and Cockpit ladies' models accounting for the rest. Cases are 30 mm and 32 mm almost without exception, and many are diamond-set or mother-of-pearl dialled. The [Caliber 77](/calibers/breitling-caliber-77) is the SuperQuartz for the Colt and Chronomat 32, the [B74](/calibers/breitling-caliber-b74) the three-hand version for the larger Colts, and the [Caliber 78](/calibers/breitling-caliber-78) and [Caliber 79](/calibers/breitling-caliber-79) the analogue-digital versions in the Chronospace and Aerospace.

175 other watches in the library run the Breitling Caliber B71.
