CartierBallon Bleu de Cartier

The Ballon Bleu is Cartier's round watch of 2007, named for the sapphire cabochon on its crown and the curved guard that wraps around it like a bubble. This library holds 51 references.

About the Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier

The design is a pebble: a case convex on both faces, Roman numerals that yield to the crown guard at 3 o'clock, a guilloché dial and a rail track. It was made in sizes from 28 mm to 46 mm and quickly became Cartier's most-sold watch. The library holds the 36 mm and 42 mm automatics in the greatest numbers, and the two tourbillon models at the top.

The movements are Cartier's 049, an ETA 2892-A2 finished by Cartier, and its no-date version the 049 No Date, which powers the 36 mm and 30 references here against 13 for the dated 42 mm. The hand-wound 430 MC sits in the small hand-wound models, the 9452 MC flying tourbillon with the Geneva Seal in 4, and the in-house 1847 MC of 2015 in the 40 mm. 44 of the 51 references are automatic.

The 36 mm case accounts for 30 references, the 42 mm for 14 and the 46 mm for 3. Pink gold is the material of 19 cases, steel of 9, white gold of 8 and yellow gold of 5, with two-tone behind them. Silver dials, most of them guilloché, account for 36. Water resistance is 30 m throughout, and the rarity median is 6.

The Tank is the rectangular Cartier the Ballon Bleu sits beside, the Calibre de Cartier the sports watch of the same decade, and the Rotonde de Cartier the round case for the fine-watchmaking movements. The glossary covers the crown and guilloché.
