IWCGST Aquatimer

The Aquatimer is IWC's dive watch, made since 1967, and this collection also holds the GST line of 1997 to 2005 that carried it. This library holds 101 references.

About the IWC GST Aquatimer

The first Aquatimer of 1967 put its rotating bezel inside the crystal, under the crown, and rated the case to 200 m. The 1982 Ocean 2000, designed with Porsche Design in titanium, reached 2,000 m. The GST of 1997, named for gold, steel and titanium, gave the diver an integrated bracelet and added a chronograph and a perpetual calendar in the same case, and the 1999 GST Deep One was the first IWC with a mechanical depth gauge. The Aquatimer name returned in 2004, the Deep Two of 2009 and Deep Three of 2014 continued the gauge, and the 2014 redesign introduced the SafeDive system, an external bezel that drives an internal one.

The GST Perpetual Calendar is the collection's largest family, 24 references on Kurt Klaus's 79261, which is why a dive collection here carries 30 perpetual calendars. The three-hand Aquatimers run the 30110 in 16 references and its 30120 successor in 8; the chronographs the 79320 in 14 and the in-house 89365 in 5; the 2009 Aquatimer the 80110. 97 of the 101 references are automatic.

Sizes run from 34 mm to 49 mm, with 44 mm the most common at 28 references, 43 mm at 25 and 42 mm at 22. Steel is the material of 71 cases and titanium of 21. Water resistance is 120 m on the GST Perpetual and Chronograph, 48 references, 300 m on 24 and 2,000 m on 8. Black dials account for 57. The rarity median of 7 is the second-highest of any IWC line here, after the Da Vinci, and 18 references are limited editions.

The Ingenieur is the other tool watch with the soft-iron inner case, and the Pilot's Watch shares the 79320 and 30110.
