Caliber 49

About the Breitling Caliber 49

The 2896 is the 2892 with a large double-disc date added, so the two digits sit side by side in a wide window rather than on one small disc. That is the point of the movement: the Galactic 41 shows the date at 12 o'clock in a way a standard date disc cannot. The base keeps the 2892's 28,800 vph and 42-hour reserve, at 25.6 mm across and 4.85 mm high, and every Caliber 49 is COSC-certified.

In the library it powers 132 Galactic 41 references and 10 Cockpits, every one of them a 41 mm case, most in steel and many with diamond bezels. It is a movement for exactly one watch design, and the count reflects how many dial and bezel variants that design ran to.

The Caliber 10 is the same 2892 base without the big date, the Caliber 37 the small-seconds version in the Galactic 36, and the ETA 2892 piece explains why so many maisons build on that base.
