About the IWC Big Pilot

The 1940 Big Pilot's Watch 52 T.S.C. was the largest wristwatch IWC ever produced, built around a pocket-watch movement with a central seconds hand, and its oversized conical crown was designed to be wound with gloves on. The 2002 ref 5002 brought the shape back at 46.2 mm with the caliber 5011, a seven-day automatic with the Pellaton winding system and a power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock, inside a soft-iron inner case. The Top Gun of 2007, the Le Petit Prince editions from 2013, the 48 mm and 55 mm Heritage models of 2016 and the 43 mm Big Pilot of 2021 have followed.

The seven-day calibers define the collection. The 51111 of the ref 5004 is the most common at 36 references, the 52110 of the 2016 ref 5009 follows, and the original 51011 survives in 7. The perpetual calendar versions, the 51614 and the 52615, account for 45 references between them, so nearly a third of the Big Pilots here carry a perpetual calendar. The 82100 of the Big Pilot 43 brought a 60-hour movement without the reserve indicator, and 100 m of water resistance, in 2021. The glossary covers the power reserve display the seven-day watches are built around.

The 46.2 mm case accounts for 88 references and the 46 mm for 25; the 43 mm has 11, and the 48 mm and 55 mm Heritage models 8 and a few more. Steel is the material for 46 cases, red gold for 25, platinum for 14, and the Top Gun's titanium and ceramic for 11. Black dials lead, with the Le Petit Prince blue on 28. 100 of the 146 references are limited editions.

The Pilot's Watch is the smaller line, and the Portugieser shares the seven-day movements.
