RolexSky-Dweller

The Sky-Dweller is Rolex's most complicated watch: an annual calendar and a second time zone in a 42 mm Oyster case. It was introduced in 2012 and rebuilt around the caliber 9002 in 2023. This library holds 79 references.

About the Rolex Sky-Dweller

Its two complications are read in unusual ways. The month sits in twelve small windows around the edge of the dial, one at each hour marker, and the calendar, called Saros after the astronomical cycle, knows the length of every month except February. Home time is a 24-hour disc set into the dial, off-centre, that turns as the hours pass. Both are set through the Ring Command bezel: turning the fluted bezel selects which function the crown adjusts, so a watch with three settings needs one crown.

The 9001 of 2012 powers 40 references here and the 9002, which added the Chronergy escapement and Paraflex shock absorbers, 39. Both are 72-hour movements with 40 jewels, and both are Superlative Chronometers.

The Sky-Dweller launched in gold only, and the library still shows it: yellow gold is the material of 25 cases and Everose of 23, with 6 in white gold. Rolesor arrived in 2017, steel with white gold in 14 references and with yellow gold in 11, and it is the Rolesor references that carry the largest families, the 336933, 336934, 336935 and 336938 each holding six to eight dial variants. White, black and champagne dials lead. Water resistance is 100 m throughout, every case is 42 mm, and none are limited editions.

The Day-Date is the other Rolex with a calendar beyond the date, and the glossary defines the annual calendar and the GMT function the Sky-Dweller combines.
