BreitlingSuperocean

The Superocean is Breitling's dive watch, a name that dates from 1957 and a collection that has been rebuilt roughly once a decade since. This library holds 222 references, with water resistance from 200 m to 2,000 m.

About the Breitling Superocean

The 1957 originals were a time-only diver and a chronograph rated to 200 m, and the 1965 "slow-motion" chronograph with its single central minute hand is the reference the 2022 redesign returned to. Between them came the Superocean II of 2010, with the 1,500 m Superocean 42, and the 2015 and 2019 ranges that offered each size at a different depth rating: 36 mm at 200 m, 42 mm at 500 m, 44 mm at 1,000 m and 46 mm at 2,000 m. The rating distribution here, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 200 m in descending order, is that ladder.

The movements are the ETA-derived Breitling calibers rather than the in-house B01. The Caliber 17, an ETA 2824 finished to chronometer standard, powers 129 of the 222 references, and its no-date Caliber 17 ND 60 more; together they are 85 per cent of the collection. The Caliber 13 chronograph accounts for 27, and the Caliber 32 GMT for 4.

44 mm is the most common size at 89 references, 42 mm at 78, 36 mm at 28 and 46 mm at 18. Steel is the material for 150 cases, and steel with a ceramic bezel for 55. Black dials account for 112, blue for 42, and the yellow, orange and green dials that mark the sportier editions for 28 between them. 25 references are limited editions, and every case has a closed back.

The Superocean Heritage is the vintage-styled diver with the mesh bracelet, the Superocean Heritage '57 the 1957 revival, and the Avenger the heavier tool watch.
